Puzzle Mania

Calling all Puzzlers to sign up for our first team puzzling competition to be held in the Alley Park Nature Center.   Open to puzzlers (ages 8 and older).   A team can have 2-4 persons.  Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams.   Refreshments will be provided.   

A team captain registers for the event.  When signing up, the fee of $40 per team.   Only the captain signs up the team.  Other team members names can be listed in the information area.   Captains will also be asked to name their team during sign up.



TEAMS –




  • A captain or team leader must register online for the team. ($40 fee)


  • A name for your team can be added to your registration


  • Two to four people can make up your team


  • No spectators permitted during the event


  • Children may participate on a team, but must be able to abide by the rules and remain at the designated puzzle table with an adult at all times




 
SET UP –




  • 12 teams, two hour, 500 piece puzzles (all the same)


  • Arrival time: 1:30-1:45pm; Event Begins: 2:00pm; Event Ends: 4:00pm


  • Prizes for 1st and 2nd place


  • Puzzles in a sealed paper bag until the start.


  • Five foot round tables with no seams.




 
RULES –




  • Do not bring anything other than yourself to the competition table.


  • Keep purses and bags under your table.


  • Headphones are allowed but can not disturb others.


  • Keep phones out of sight. If you need to use your phone, leave the room.


  • No cutting devices


  • No templates or use of pattern detectors.


  • No extra lighting: no headlamps, flashlights or phone lights.


  • No adjustments to the table.


  • No magnifying glasses or assistive devices (excluding eye glasses)


  • No trays, spatulas or other assistive devices.


  • No interfering, distracting or assisting other tables


  • No loud conversations, humming or singing.


  • Food and beverages allowed at your own risk and must be kept at your table.


  • There are no scheduled breaks.


  • If a team shows poor sportsmanship judges will issue one warning. A second correction is grounds for dismissal.




 
Winning




  • The first team to finish and get judge approval wins.


  • First and second place prizes will be awarded.


  • Teams that don’t place can continue their puzzle until the end of the event


  • If there is no winner by 4pm, the team with the fewest remaining pieces wins.


  • A piece is counted if it is not connected to the main puzzle. Three or more properly connected pieces not attached to the body of the puzzle will count as one piece.


  • Any missing pieces at the end of the puzzle will add 10 seconds per piece.


  • If the final piece appears after 10 seconds of searching, the search time plus the penalty are added to the finish time.


  • More than four lost pieces will disqualify a team.


  • If two or more adjacent are missing, no penalty will be applied as it is considered a manufacturing error.


  • If a manufacturing defect causes penalty to a participant, the judges will take the necessary measures to correct the defect without undermining other teams.
